Trendy Ways to Reuse Jars

One thing no one mentions about shopping during Plastic Free July is how many JARS you might end up with! Glass jars are a great alternative to plastic packaging, as glass and metal are more easily recyclable materials, but before you get rid of those jars, a better alternative is to reuse them. Of course everyone has their limits, but below we have a few easy (and trendy!) ways to give those jars a second life.

All Those Plants

A chic way to spruce up a living room or kitchen is a few plants potted in jars. You can use the jars to propagate new plants in just water or cover with decorative paper or ribbon and fill with potting soil for a permanent plant home. Group a few small ones by a kitchen window or give a big one a spotlight on an end table to easily add a touch of nature to any room.

Organizers in Every Size

If you find your house cluttered with much more than jars, just try putting all that other stuff inside the jars. Tall jars to hold pencils and pens, short ones to hold paper clips, medium ones for all your lost marbles—sky’s the limit! Since the jars are see-through, you can even organize things by color or design to create instant room decor.

Storage You Can See

Tired of buying a new bag of rice only to find three more in the back of your pantry? Storing shelf-stable bulk items, grains, and spices in clear jars is an easy way to keep track of your food inventory. Stack your jars by type, size, or color along the back of your counter for a trendy look in your kitchen, and make sure to write dates purchased or expiration dates on the lids.

Dapper Drinks

Jars make great containers for smoothies on the go and can be used sans lids for everything from iced coffee to cocktails. Some glass jars are even made with handles, and most are also dishwasherable, making them the ideal dish. While capable of holding warm drinks too, just be sure to use the handle or an insulating sleeve if your beverage is too hot to handle.

Bulk Up with Refills

A jar is great for refills too! Use jars to buy bulk at the grocery store or a favorite refill store, or bring your jars to us at the next in-person market. If you return a jar to us, we offer 10% off our Toilet Fizzies, Sugar Scrubs, Shower Steamers, or Deliah's Delicates Lotion! We use clean, repurposed jars for many of our items to minimize waste and avoid unnecessary new plastic.

Jars are so versatile, they can be reused for just about anything, so before you toss them, try a little arts and crafts time, and if all else fails, donate them to a friend, a teacher, a shop, or a buy-nothing group. And if all else fails, you can take up pickling. 🥒
