Trash Talk
A blog about the waste we make and how to reduce it in our environment
Trendy Ways to Reuse Jars
One thing no one mentions about shopping during Plastic Free July is how many JARS you might end up with! Glass jars are a great alternative to plastic packaging, as glass and metal are more easily recyclable materials, but before you get rid of those jars, a better alternative is to reuse them. Of course everyone has their limits, but below we have a few easy (and trendy!) ways to give those jars a second life.
Greenwashing
All Natural. Sustainable. Eco. Enviro. Green. What do those words mean when on a label? Well, depending on who’s selling it…not much these days…
Sneaky Plastics
We are already five days into Plastic Free July. Many of you have picked a goal to reduce your plastic use and are exploring with plastic-free alternatives and buying in bulk. While maintaining a good plastic-free routine is not too difficult, setting yourself up for success can be more challenging. As you begin your plastic-reduction journey, we thought we would share just a few sneaky sources of plastic pollution to look out for.
The Plastic-Free Home
From 1957-1967, Disney’s Tomorrowland featured a “House of the Future” made entirely of plastic. We’re talking inside, outside, furniture, plates, doors, and windows. They really thought the future was plastic…and they were right, but not in the way they intended. Plastic has become our future not because of its durability but for its inexpensive production and our “throwaway” mentality toward it. Because it takes hundreds of years for it to decompose, now we’re stuck with it, and there’s a big problem. People are realizing the value of reducing their plastic waste and are seeking a new kind of home for the future–one with no plastic in sight!
