Composting

Welcome to another Trash Talk Tuesday! This week I wanted to talk about composting and its benefits. Composting reduces methane that is released in landfills and enriches your soil.

For ease, you can get a small metal can to keep in your kitchen which can be dumped onto your main compost pile or bin as needed. When determining the location for the compost pile ventilation, access to shade and the potential odor should be considered. To enable bacteria to thrive, the pile needs to be mixed and water added at least monthly. This helps aerate and moisturize the pile which is ideal for bacteria to flourish. The pile also needs to be warm enough for the composting process to work effectively. Please see Epa.gov for more information.
