Coffee and Tea Waste

Welcome to another Trash Talk Tuesday! Today I wanted to talk about how to reduce waste in regards to coffee and tea. Coffee is a great jump start to the day, and tea can be very helpful to relieve stress and boost your immune system.

As we discussed last week, the coffee grounds or tea leaves can be composted. However, you still have the coffee cans and filters or Keurig cups and tea bags. For those who use a Keurig, they have made a reusable K-cup. There is also a wide variety of reusable coffee filters for pour overs or coffee pots. Another option when making coffee is using a french press. Many stores that sell food in bulk also sell coffee grounds. I found a few health food stores very accommodating by allowing me to weigh my jar beforehand to ensure I only pay for the products and not the jar. Loose leaf tea can also be found at bulk food stores. Airtight stainless steel or ceramic containers are the best storage options. Those containers should be kept in a cool and dry place to prevent molding. By having a variety of herbs and spices you can create almost any flavor you desire and can reap the added health benefits from those herbs.
