Bug Spray Recipe

Welcome to another Trash Talk Tuesday! During this time of year, it is desirable to spend as much time outside in the gorgeous weather as possible. Nevertheless, it doesn’t matter if I am outside for 5 minutes or 5 hours, the mosquitos are lethal. The sticky feeling of traditional bug spray and the harsh chemicals it contains makes it less appealing for me.

I have found a wonderful recipe that leaves my skin feeling smooth. I have fewer bug bites using this spray than any other product. It is a combination of essential oils in a sesame seed oil or coconut oil base. You will need Citronella, Lemongrass, Thyme, Cedarwood, Geranium, Lavender and Peppermint essential oils. Add about 10 drops of each oil into a small spray bottle. Then fill the rest with the base of your choice and shake well. There have also been great reviews on a bug repellent lotion bar, though I do not have any firsthand experience with how effective these products are.

(Note: Depending on your situation and concerns at hand, traditional repellent that is more potent may give additional peace of mind. Always use your own discretion.)
