Sprucing Up for the Holidays
Haul out the holly and…all of a sudden there is dust EVERYWHERE! Don’t fret, because we have some sustainable (and more importantly, easy) cleaning solutions to share just in time for those hosting company this holiday season.
When tidying up, there is a common misconception that we have to use lots of disposable items. Paper towels are sold to us with the idea that reusable rags are gross and germ-filled, but that’s the beauty of reusable cloths–they can be washed and dried in between uses, so there is really no need for disposable items. The surfaces will not get any cleaner unless you are using a disinfectant spray (which we’ve talked about previously), and in fact, one of our non-paper towel cloths can withstand scrubbing force that no paper towel ever could! Plus, they’re fun to look at. :D
Disposable dusting attachments like Swiffer dusters are also unnecessary. Of course, you could always use a cloth like our non-paper towel to do scrubbing, dusting, and more, but to make things easy for you, we also make reusable dusting attachments that fit many of the disposable duster kits on the market! Our dusters are hand-sewn in a variety of patterns and layered to have maximum surface area and capture every last fleck of stray glitter. The queen of DIY herself, Martha Stewart, even has a make-your-own dust spray recipe (link in the comments!), to both cut down on chemicals and save you money.
Lastly, when it comes to cleaning, nothing beats good old fashioned soap. Luckily, we have you covered there! We have a variety of manufactured and handmade soap options for dishes, laundry, and body, all low- to no-waste and free of harsh and unnecessary chemicals. Our bars of soaps also come in seasonal scents that guests will love, and they are made of goat milk, so they won’t overdry your hands.
Don’t let the big companies fool you. Cleaning doesn’t have to involve disposable, chemical-laden products, and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. In most cases, it just takes a little bit of elbow grease, and if you need, a little help from your friendly sustainable shop!
