Holiday Cooking With Low Waste

Welcome to another Trash Talk Tuesday! I thought with Thanksgiving coming up I would share a few ideas for meal prepping that could be less waste.

One of the best ways to reduce waste during the holiday is to make a plan. Create a guest list and pick a few family favorite dishes. When planning how much to prepare, make sure to factor in leftovers if desired and have reusable containers available. Once the dishes have been chosen make a list of all the ingredients needed and what location has them less waste. Farmers markets or bulk stores can have a wide variety of items required to complete the list. Remember to weigh your container prior to filling it with product. A local butcher may let you bring your own container when purchasing different cuts of meat. Completing some dishes a day or two before and doing most of the prep work on the remaining dishes prior can minimize stress on the day. One of my favorite foods is mashed potatoes with Almond or Soy milk. It is very quick and tastes delicious with a little salt and pepper.
